POUILLY-FUISSE – The Domaine Abelanet is one of the young stars of Pouilly-Fuisse. The family has been making wine since the 1800’s. Eric has now been at the reins of his ancestral estate since 1993. His family previously sold all their wine through a cooperative, but Eric has become so well known for the quality of his wine that he now bottles 100% of the production. That’s good for us.

Eric has made significant progress in the vineyards. He uses sustainable agriculture practices to control erosion and diminish yields. Thus, he succeeds in growing riper grapes with more concentrated flavors. Along with his improved vineyard management, Eric has gradually installed modern cellar equipment, including thermo-regulated, stainless steel tanks. Combined with new oak barrels and an air conditioned storage area, his facilities are state of the art.

The unanimous verdict is that Eric used to make good wine, but now he is making great wine. I feel fortunate to import this single-vineyard Pouilly-Fuisse because of its high quality and relatively low price. Like most of my wines, this wine represents VALUE.
