SANTENAY – Jean-Claude is a special winemaker. Just soak in his philosophy about making wine on his modest estate. He looks for quality fruit, the expression of the unique characteristics of each individual vineyard, and finesse … all in the context of making a truly balanced wine.

Jean-Claude has had considerable help with this proven philosophy. He and his dad, Adrien, are incredibly close. In fact, when one starts a sentence, the other will often finish it. Jean-Claude is a father’s dream. He studied hard at Adrien’s feet and learned the ancestral ways of making wine in the Belland family. He has knowledge that is very private and only passed by word of mouth from father to son – for 5 generations. Very special.

When he took over the estate, Jean-Claude injected new energy, but kept the traditional methods in place. Why change a method that works? Because of health reasons, Jean-Claude has engaged a top winemaker, Philippe, to vinify his wines. Together, they oversee every phase of the wine making process. From pruning the vines to bottling the wine, they are meticulous and passionate about making some of the best wines in the Cotes de Beaune region of Burgundy.
